Bring Your Own YouTubeTM Channels to 9x9.tv

9x9.tv today announced ChannelConnect for its YouTubeTM video discovery app for AndroidTM devices. ChannelConnect allows users to watch their subscribed YouTube channels on 9x9.tv in addition to other YouTube channels curated for them. 9x9.tv lets users “bring their own channels” to the 9x9.tv browsing experience, allowing them to personalize their channel line-up. It’s the latest addition to the 9x9.tv app, which provides viewers with curated YouTube video channels in an easy-to-use flip and discover format on their Android devices and simulates the traditional TV experience.

Through ChannelConnect, users can sign in with a Google account and 9x9.tv automatically imports their existing YouTube channel subscriptions into their “Following” section within the app. The virtual channel that is automatically generated allows users to quickly find and watch the latest episodes from their favorite YouTube channels all in one place. In addition, ChannelConnect works in both directions, giving users access to all their favorite channels no matter where they watch YouTube because it syncs channel subscriptions between the 9x9.tv app and YouTube.com, so any channels that are subscribed to through 9x9.tv are also pushed to YouTube.com.

Users watching a particular episode from a virtual channel within the app can also quickly tap a button to go directly to the channel where the episode originates. The new feature joins the app’s unique “day parting” and recommendation capabilities, which permit a curated set of channels to be featured according to the time of day. In this way, users have an even wider variety of channels tailored to their interests to view at any given time. Users now have an even better reason to turn on the app because there is always something good to watch on 9x9.tv.

“While our users appreciate the traditional TV experience of leisurely channel surfing through our curated channels to discover content, there is demand for their own YouTube channels that are personalized and targeted to complement their own interests and lifestyles,” said Dan Lee, Chief Content Officer of 9x9.tv. “By having users bring their own channels to the app to be mixed with our curated channels, we further increase 9x9.tv’s personalization capabilities, giving users a better way to enjoy YouTube channels any time of the day.”
