Netronome Demonstrates Industry’s First OpenFlow Design Built on Flow Processors at Inaugural Open Networking User Group Meeting

Netronome, the leading developer of network flow processors, today announced the company will demonstrate the industry’s first software defined networking (SDN) reference design that uses flow processors and open dataplane software controlled by the OpenFlow protocol. The reference design will be on display at the Open Networking User Group (ONUG) on February 13 at the Fidelity Investments Auditorium in Boston, Massachusetts.

Netronome’s SDN design leverages the unique capabilities of flow processors to enhance and accelerate the OpenFlow datapath for services and applications at the edge of the SDN.

“In an SDN world, applications and services require flow intelligence at a very granular level,” said Jarrod Siket, senior vice president of marketing at Netronome. “This requirement is forcing devices to support all OpenFlow match fields in SDNs. Programmable flow processors are well positioned to service these applications by supporting the evolving OpenFlow standards.”

“Given the latest advancements in open networking, we are excited to watch as industry leaders share their solutions and perspectives on SDN, virtualization, network convergence, and more,” said Nick Lippus, editor of the Lippis Report and chairman of ONUG. “We look forward to seeing the demonstration of Netronome products and are very pleased that Netronome is active in evolving and accelerating SDN-based solutions.”

Powered by 96 packet processing cores and 120 multi‐threaded flow processing cores operating at up to 1.2 GHz, Netronome’s NFP‐6xxx brings breakthrough performance to a broad range of network, security and content processing applications used in 40-200 Gbps networks. The NFP‐6xxx delivers 200 Gbps of packet processing with deep packet inspection, network and security processing, and I/O virtualization for over 100 million simultaneous flows. The NFP‐6xxx is the industry’s only data plane or flow processor specifically designed for tight coupling with x86 processors.

The ONUG is a group of IT business leaders who are interested in exchanging ideas and best practices of implementing open networking and software defined networking designs. Attendance is for IT business executives of large corporations. The ONUG meeting is the networking industry’s inaugural meeting for IT executives, global network architects and designers to accelerate the awareness and adoption of SDN.
