Planning a last-minute getaway is the perfect way to surprise your loved one this Valentine's and Asda Money looks at some of the destinations that could hit the right romantic notes this February 14th.

LEEDS, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 02/04/13 -- Research reveals that couples are keener than ever to head to the continent and beyond for Valentine's celebrations with bookings to the popular weekend break destinations of Rome, Berlin and Paris shooting up by 30 per cent(i) in 2012, compared to the previous year.

Asda Money looks at some other idyllic spots where couples can reignite the fires of love this Valentine's weekend.

Warsaw, Poland

Eastern Europe has always been a Mecca for travellers who want to soak up best of culture, vibrant local histories and hearty cuisine, and all at bargain prices. In keeping with this idea, recent figures show that in Poland's capital Warsaw couples can enjoy a one-night stay in a four star hotel, a return taxi trip, as well as cocktails and dinner for two for just GBP 127.30(ii).

Among Warsaw's key attractions include its Old Town Market Square and Royal Castle.

Sardinia, Italy

With an average of five sunshine hours a day, the Italian island of Sardinia is the perfect spot for couples who want to get a dose of winter sun as well as romantic strolls along the beach.

A number of low-cost airlines fly to Sardinia's Alghero airport, leaving more room in the budget to explore the cosmopolitan vibe of areas such as Calgliari or the more historic charms of Oristano.

Valencia, Spain

Spain's third largest city is famed for its Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast), where couples can truly get away from it all in one the area's low-key resorts.

Those who want to make the most of the nightlife in their destination, as well as making time for candlelit dinners for two, will love the vibrant atmosphere on offer El Barrio del Carmen, as Valencia's bohemian quarter.

Asda Travel Insurance offers both European travel insurance and worldwide travel insurance options for those heading overseas this Valentine's.
