GovSec to Host Keynote Addresses by Gen. Stan McChrystal and Former Redskins Quarterback Joe Theismann

Keynote addresses at GovSec – the Government Security Conference and Expo, featuring TREXPO, the Law Enforcement Expo – showcase some of the foremost names in military strategy and leadership. Gen. Stan McChrystal and former Redskins Quarterback Joe Theismann will take center stage during the event, which takes place May 13-15 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to these free sessions open to all attendees, U.S. Army (ret.) Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman will lead a two-hour special presentation on the physiological and psychological preparation for combat.

On Tuesday, May 14 at 8:45 a.m., Gen. McChrystal will deliver the opening keynote on “The State of International Affairs and the Security Challenges Facing America.” Having served as Commander of U.S. and International Forces in Afghanistan, the four-star general has been widely praised for revolutionizing warfare by fusing intelligence and operations. In addition, he is credited for developing and implementing the counter-insurgency strategy in Afghanistan and for creating a comprehensive counter-terrorism organization that revolutionized the way military agencies interact and operate. With his unique perspective on military and global affairs, Gen. McChrystal – who is now a senior fellow with Yale University’s Jackson Institute for Global Affairs – will discuss challenges facing American in a globalized world, the proliferation of non-state actors and the advance of information technology and instantaneous communication.

Gridiron leader Theismann will deliver his address, “Managing to Win!” on Wednesday, May 15 at 8:45 a.m. The former quarterback, business entrepreneur and author knows the importance of teamwork for achieving success. In his presentation, Theismann will show how good management and effective leadership can be achieved by listening and trusting individuals and motivating them to take ownership of a team’s goals. In his own entertaining style, Theismann will share tips on how effective leaders empower individuals to step out of their comfort zones and achieve a higher level of performance.

Attendees also will be able to learn more about “The Bulletproof Mind: Psychological and Physiological Preparation for Combat,” in a special presentation by U.S. Army (ret.) Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman. A West Point psychology professor, a professor of Military Science and former Army Ranger who has founded a new field of scientific endeavor termed “killology,” he is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. During this two-hour session, Tuesday, May 14 at 1 p.m., Lt. Colonel Grossman will discuss the new breed of domestic and international terrorism and strategies for prevention, response and survival.
