Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

CiRBA Introduces Drag and Drop Transformation Planning

CiRBA, a leading provider of capacity transformation and control software, today announced the general availability of CiRBA Version 7.2, featuring Dynamic Transformation Planning for virtual and cloud infrastructure. This new feature enables users to quickly and easily analyze infrastructure for cloud migration and hardware refresh opportunities, and to visualize the impact of these changes on running environments, both now and in the future.

Dynamic Transformation Planning is available through CiRBA’s award-winning Control Console for virtual and cloud infrastructure, and enables users to simply “drag and drop” existing VMs and hosts onto new target platforms or environments to assess the suitability and impact of a change. The new capability combines the Control Console with CiRBA’s industry leading transformation analytics, leveraged by Fortune 500 organizations and global tech firms such as CGI, Dell, IBM, Wipro and Unisys in their virtualization and cloud migration consulting practices.

“In many organizations, existing virtual environments are starting to be considered legacy, and the push toward cloud operational models is intensifying,” said Andrew Hillier, CiRBA CTO and co-founder. “Self service is important, but perhaps even more important is the standardization that cloud models bring, both from a capacity perspective and a configuration perspective. But this benefit is also one of the biggest challenges, and migrating existing physical and virtual workloads into clouds can be complex and time-consuming without the right analytics. CiRBA’s Dynamic Transformation Planning is an intuitive mechanism to perform comprehensive analysis of the technical, business and operational factors that govern if, when and how workloads can be moved to the cloud.”

CiRBA’s Control Console enables organizations to manage and control capacity in virtual and cloud environments by providing current and predicted views of infrastructure requirements according to both policy and utilization requirements. The console enables users to take action and automate its recommendations for optimal VM placements, allocations and capacity decisions in order to reduce infrastructure requirements by 40-70%. Dynamic Transformation Planning adds another dimension to the existing capacity control features by enabling users to rapidly model alternative supply options, such as hardware changes and upgrades, as well as demand changes, such as the migration of workloads to other internal or external environments. These capabilities further extend the ability of the Control Console to increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.

CiRBA Version 7.2 also enhances its capacity control capabilities with the introduction of a new Storage Sensor that when activated provides visibility into used and provisioned datastore capacity status for VMware environments. Users can see which VMs and hosts rely on a particular datastore to understand the impact of shortfalls and can also reserve capacity within the datastores for new VMs coming online through its Bookings capability, giving visibility into future demand for storage.

“CiRBA’s new Storage Sensor seamlessly integrates datastore capacity into the Control Console, enabling visualization of supply and demand, reservation of storage capacity, and forecasting to better plan for requirements and avoid potential shortfalls,” said Hillier.
