SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/11/13 -- Today, Nina Grewal, Member of Parliament for Fleetwood-Port Kells, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support for upgrades to the Tong Louie Family YMCA under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across the country like these upgrades at the Tong Louie Family YMCA," said MP Grewal. "Our investments in local facilities and community spaces will benefit Canadian families and communities, helping to support job creation, boosting economic activity, as well as creating safe and accessible community infrastructure facilities for years to come."

The Harper Government's investment of $250,216 will enhance the services provided by the Tong Louie Family YMCA. With the funding being announced today, the YMCA of Greater Vancouver will be able to upgrade the Surrey location's change rooms, including purchasing and installing new tile, fixtures, flooring, lights, wall finishes, shower dividers and locker systems. This will improve the accessibility and safety of the facility.

"The Tong Louie Family YMCA is celebrating its tenth year helping Surrey residents pursue active, healthy lifestyles," said YMCA of Greater Vancouver's CEO Stephen Butz. "With Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund support, we will be able to keep pace with the community's growing demands for affordable, convenient access to programming for the whole family."

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small- and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets.
