Recently Sirris, the Collective Centre for the Belgian Technology Industry, hosted two conferences on Printed Electronics at their facility in Liege, Belgium. The first conference called “Micro-Printing Day” provided attendees with latest developments in printed electronics presented by scientists from Fraunhofer, Sirris, and Optomec on topics including printed conformal sensors, MEMS packaging, and bio-fabrication. Micro-Print Day attendees also participated in round table discussions and printed electronic demonstrations using Optomec Aerosol Jet Printers.

The second conference hosted at Sirris, the International Aerosol Jet Users Group Meeting, was attended by Optomec system owners representing marquee industrial academic, and government organizations. User presentation topics included Multilayered Devices and Hybrid Circuits, Metallization and Functional Structures by Aerosol Jet Deposition, Direct Deposition of Surface Acoustic Wave Sensors by Aerosol Jet Printing, Aerosol Jet Printing at the Centre for Process Innovation, 3D Functional Printing with Aerosol Jet, and more. Several European-based companies are currently using the Sirris facilities to test and develop their new printed electronic applications. These projects include low cost ink formulation, micro-connections, fine conductive tracks on flexible substrates, carbon nanotube printing, smart textiles, interdigitated sensors, electroluminescent electrodes, direct 3D printing, microsystems, and other emerging printed electronic applications.

Through this meeting, we were able to collaborate and discuss our printed electronics challenges and successes. In addition to the User Group meeting, Sirris organized a 'Micro-Printing Day' dedicated to introducing the Belgium technological industry to printed electronics manufacturing. This event was organized jointly by Sirris, Optomec and the Fraunhofer Institute. Both events included round table discussions and live printing demonstrations, which were highly valuable to the attendees.”
