Mountain America Credit Union's 'Swing for the Kids' Raises $100,000 for Primary Children's Medical Center

WEST JORDAN, UT -- (Marketwire) -- 12/17/12 -- The Mountain America Swing for the Kids Challenge raised $100,000 for Primary Children's Medical Center in 2012, bringing the nine-year-old golf fundraiser within striking distance in 2013 of $1 million in total donations to the hospital. To date, lead sponsor Mountain America Credit Union and dozens of sponsor partners have raised and donated more than $920,000 for healthcare and other needs at Primary Children's.

"We appreciate the donations of long-time friends like Mountain America and their partners," said Katy Welkie, chief executive officer at Primary Children's Medical Center. "The support from Mountain America has become instrumental in helping us meet the growing medical needs of children from the Intermountain area."

Marshall Paepke, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Mountain America, said, "The shared credit union philosophy of 'people helping people' is taken very seriously by Mountain America and its friends and partners in the financial community. And there are no people who are more important to our members than their children and families. That's what keeps us coming back to help the good people of Primary Children's Medical Center as they help those in need."

Established in 2004, the Swing for the Kids Challenge began as an opportunity for credit unions and the industries that serve them to promote the ideals of the credit union movement while raising funds for Primary Children's Medical Center and the Credit Unions for Kids Program. The 10th-annual challenge is scheduled for Aug. 19, 2013, at The Jeremy Golf and Country Club in Park City.

Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City serves as the pediatric referral center for children in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Montana. The 289-bed hospital is equipped and staffed to care for children with the most complex illnesses and injuries, and it is the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center serving the Intermountain West. Primary Children's is managed by Intermountain Healthcare and is the pediatric specialty teaching hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine.

Mountain America Credit Union has 75 branches in five states and offers a variety of financial products and services for consumers and businesses, including savings accounts, auto loans, checking accounts, mortgage loans, business checking, SBA loans and retirement options. With Utah credit union roots dating back to the 1930s, Mountain America has become a tradition for many members. Today the credit union serves more than 400,000 members and has more than $3 billion in assets. Visit www.macu.com for more information.
