Smiths Detection today launches a low-energy X-ray scanner to meet increasing market demand for a system best suited to detecting explosives, drugs, stowaways and contraband hidden in cars, light motor vehicles and mini buses.

The CIP-300 uses a 300 kV X-ray source – lower exposure than that of a large cargo scanner – allowing drivers and passengers to remain seated in their vehicles. Where local regulations prohibit this “drive-through” configuration, an optional conveying system allows the inspection of the unmanned vehicle.
