Niklas Bjorkman wrote: Firstly I agree with your conclusion. NewSQL takes the best of the traditional databases and NoSQL databases to combine the benefits of both worlds. I do not agree that NewSQL vendors focus on giving scale-out features to transactional data. The NewSQL market is focusing on giving true ACID support combined with extreme performance, stepping away from the traditional relational structures in databases. A lot of developers appreciate the ease of accessing data using SQL and I think we will see more and more databases supporting standard SQL. As you said - NewSQL databases often maintain the...

Corporate Donations Help Red Cross Respond after Superstorm Sandy

Recognizes support of Annual Disaster Giving Program members and million dollar donors

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to Superstorm Sandy, companies large and small, representing industries across the United States, are supporting people in need by donating to the American Red Cross.

Along with widespread public donations online, by phone or through text donations, these contributions are helping provide shelter, food, water, relief supplies and comfort to the millions of people who have been devastated by Sandy.

"With the help of our generous partners, the Red Cross can deliver relief to individuals and families in need," said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "Our response to Sandy is large and costly, and their help is critical to ensure residents have a warm shelter to go to and hot meals to eat during this difficult time."

Throughout the year, corporate members of the Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) allow the Red Cross to prepare for and respond to the needs of people affected by disaster across the United States, regardless of cost. Before Sandy made landfall, ADGP funds were helping the Red Cross open shelters, pre-position supplies and move disaster workers. Beyond their annual commitment, many of these members have made further financial gifts to the Red Cross in support of the ongoing Sandy relief operation.

In addition to corporate, association and foundation support, the Red Cross has also received a $1 million donation from Lady Gaga and her family to assist Sandy relief efforts.

The American Red Cross would like to recognize the support of these ADGP members, companies, foundations, associations and celebrities that have made donations of $1 million or more in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. (In alphabetical order as of November 6).
