Michigan's only professional ballet company visits Midland Center for the Arts

MIDLAND, Mich., Nov. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 'Tis the season to experience the magic of the holiday classic "The Nutcracker," presented by the Midland Symphony Orchestra and guest conductor John Varineau. Join Michigan's only professional ballet company, the Grand Rapids Ballet Company (GRBC), and more than 30 Midland-area children to rekindle the tradition this holiday season at Midland Center for the Arts. A brilliant blend of lavish costumes, dazzling decor and breathtaking choreography from GRBC will create an unforgettable experience for all.

"As Michigan's only professional ballet company, it is important for us to bring talent and the artistry of dance to the entire state," says Glenn Del Vecchio, Grand Rapids Ballet Company Executive Director. "We are thrilled to bring this holiday tradition to the beautiful Midland Center for the Arts."

Adds Patricia Barker, Grand Rapids Ballet Company Artistic Director, "The Nutcracker is an iconic piece of art that has lasted for generations. When you bring together the legendary Tchaikovsky score, the elegance of classical ballet and the timeless tale of a young person's hopes and dreams you have the perfect holiday tradition."

This is the first time Mr. Varineau will conduct the Midland Symphony Orchestra. He is the Associate Conductor for the Grand Rapids Symphony where he also conducts the symphony's performances with the Grand Rapids Ballet.

This beloved holiday tale will captivate audiences of all ages as Clara and her Nutcracker prince embark on a magical journey to the Kingdom of Sweets and back again.

Performances are November 30, 7:30 p.m., December 1, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and December 2, 3 p.m., at Midland Center for the Arts, 1801 W. Saint Andrews Road, Midland, MI. Before and after performances, visitors will enjoy festive lobby decor and a family portrait area to capture special memories.
