CounterPath and Altibox Announce Launch of Norway's First Operator-Based OTT Service for Consumers

Altibox Loop enables customers to make calls with their home phone number from anywhere in the world

VANCOUVER, Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - CounterPath (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), an award-winning developer of desktop and mobile VoIP software products and solutions, today announced a significant agreement with Altibox, a leading Norwegian triple-play service provider. Powered by Bria, CounterPath's mobile and tablet softphone applications, Altibox Loop allows customers to make mobile calls using their home phone number regardless of their location.

"According to research firm Visiongain, Mobile VoIP users will exceed 180 million and generate $36 billion in revenue by 2016. As such, operators like Altibox are continually looking for ways to increase service and provide value to their customers," said Todd Carothers, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at CounterPath. "CounterPath's softphone solutions enable services like Altibox Loop which offset the threat of OTT players while also meeting the changing needs of their customers."

Launched at the beginning of October, the Altibox Loop app works on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices as well as Android smartphones.  The service is available to all Altibox home phone fixed telephony subscribers and it enables users to call any phone number whether recipients are an Altibox customer or not. Altibox Loop features include video calling, HD audio, call logs, an integrated contact list, three-way calling and voicemail.

"With mobile devices increasingly becoming the communication method of choice for our customers it is important for us to deliver a service that keeps them connected whether they are simply down the street or in another country," said Tore Kristoffersen, CTO Altibox. "We are pleased that CounterPath's softphones are the technology powering Altibox Loop. Their solution is the perfect combination of quality and convenience which enables us to provide our customers with the world's best softphone technology."
